Can You Wear Contacts In The Shower
When those bad guys get in your eyes it can lead to irritation and infections.
Can you wear contacts in the shower. Showering while wearing contact lenses is similar to swimming or sleeping with them in and counts as one of the most common errors in proper lens care. Contacts are porous and act like sponges. Shower water can cause soft contact lenses to change shape swell and even stick to the eye.
Your lenses are basically little sponges and can absorb water that may contain bacteria and fungi. The worst acanthamoeba keratitis infections can result in blindness. This is pretty uncomfortable and can scratch the cornea which makes it easier for germs to enter the eye and cause infection.
It is possible but quite rare for showering with contacts to be the precise cause of any eye infection. If you wear contact lenses on a daily basis you probably keep them in when stood underneath a shower. But you should never reuse the solution from the initial application of your contacts.
You must disinfect your contacts in a fresh solution before replacing them. Leaving your contact lenses in while showering may be more convenient but doing so can lead an infection that may cause pain visual impairment and blindness. Showering in your contact lenses increases your risk of infection because the lens can trap the acanthamoeba in your eye.
When wearing contact lenses whilst showering they can be taken out. Yes you are right. You may choose to remove your daily contacts for your eyes to rest or to take a shower.
Contact lenses should be removed before coming into contact with any water including shower water. Not only does this reduce the chance of infection developing but there won t be any concerns regarding them falling out of place. And unless your shower head pumps out almond butter a shower could easily bring water into contact with whatever is in your eyes.
