Leaky Shower
Repair a leaky shower head in 12 steps.
Leaky shower. And worse a leak on the hot water side of the shower valve can waste significant energy because the water heater must continually operate to warm the water being drawn unnecessarily. One other sign of a shower leak behind the wall is the drywall tile in front of the valve becomes spongy. Then turn your screwdriver counter clockwise to loose the screw and remove it.
Cartridge valves have a single handle and operate when the cartridge slides in and out. Unscrew the valve nut and take out the metal faucet stem. Shower pan leaks leaky shower floor if your water leak is coming from your shower floor then it may be obvious already you have a broken shower pan.
Look for the screw in the center of the shower handle. Turn off the water supply to your shower. Remove handle from shower valve.
For a leaky shower faucet with two handles turn off the water supply and let the leaky faucet drain. Water seeps through those cracks resulting in a leaking shower head. Turn the water back on and see if the shower still leaks.
To fix a leaking shower head replace the old cartridge with an identical new one. A leaking shower head can also be caused by a worn out rubber washer. Remove old gasket and apply plumber s putty around back of escutcheon.
If you find some you re in for a new shower pan or shower floor to stop the leak. Fit your screwdriver into the screw that holds the shower handle in place. Check for cracks even very fine ones anywhere on the pan.
