Shower Runs Hot Then Cold

My shower is going hot cold.

Shower runs hot then cold. However if the flame is steady while someone else is showering and reports the water going hot and cold you may have a different problem. Things are going great until you feel an icy cold stream of arctic water pouring from your showerhead. You think you can tough it out but then the water becomes so unbearably hot that you re forced to jump out of the shower.

But here are the strange things i noticed. Had this problem 4 years ago and i put in a new shower head and it worked. Two water demands have been placed on the system back to back.

Hi ya try taking the shower head off and running the shower sometimes the head gets scale in it and reduces the flow rate so the stat over heats because it doesnt go through the heat exchanger quick enough so the stat cuts in because its to hot and than the water turns cold than the heater starts up again and you get the same cycle boiling hot than cold. When the shower is running cold the sinks upstairs are still running hot. My shower starts out hot but then after 4 5 minutes goes cold then 4 5 minutes later gets hot again.

Interestingly i could not produce the expected corollary effect which would be a hot cold hot sequence in the sink after running the hot shower turning it off then calling for hot in the sink. In one shower the hot water lasts about 5 minutes and then turns cold. If your shower is going hot and cold it s usually caused by not enough water getting to the shower.

Believe it or not electric showers shifting from hot to cold water is a common issue. Other baths and showers simply run too hot or cold regardless of the hot water heater temperature. When the shower goes cold and hot and then cold again it s natural to blame the combi boiler for the problem.

Either space out the water demands or replace with an on demand water heater with greater output. There are several options for solving this problem. So first of all check that the valve coming into your house is fully open and the valve on the line to the shower is fully open.
